WHO has no data on mixing different vaccines

The World Health Organization (WHO) has no information on whether COVID-19 vaccines from different manufacturers can be mixed, the organization's Director for Regulation and Prequalification Dr. Rogério Pinto de Sá Gaspar said on Friday.

Gaspar's response came as a comment on France's decision to use a different vaccine for the second jab for people under 55 who received the AstraZeneca vaccine as their first dose. The decision came amid findings by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that the AstraZeneca jab might cause blood clots.

France joins Germany in its decision to offer a different second jab. On Thursday, the Standing Committee on Vaccination at the Robert Koch Institute (STIKO) stated that anyone younger than 60 who received the AstraZeneca vaccine should be inoculated with the BioNTech or Moderna jab for their second dose.
