Report: EU won't extend Astrazeneca, J&J vaccine contracts

Wednesday, 14. April 2021 08:40

The European Commission has decided against renewing contracts on coronavirus vaccines with Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca plc, La Stampa said on Wednesday.

"The European Commission, in agreement with the leaders of many (EU) countries, has decided that the contracts with the companies that produce (viral vector) vaccines that are valid for the current year will not be renewed at their expiry," the news organization wrote.

The news comes following yesterday's announcement by J&J that it will delay the rollout of its COVID-19 vaccine in Europe over concerns that the recipients of the jab could develop blood clots on rare occasions. The bloc will reportedly focus on the mRNA vaccines like the one developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE.
