Single mRNA dose gives immunity in previously infected - study

A single dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine might be enough to ensure people who were already infected with the disease are safe from newly detected coronavirus variants, according to the latest study published in Science Magazine.

British researchers concluded in the report published on Monday that these individuals have significantly increased protection against the British and South African coronavirus variants, with a presumption similar results would be achieved when it comes to the Brazilian and Indian strains.

However, they also confirmed that people who received one mRNA vaccine dose are still at risk of the disease caused by these more dangerous variants. "This study highlights the importance of getting second doses of the vaccine rolled out to protect the population," lead scientist Rosemary Boyton explained.
