The United Kingdom's medicines regulator announced on Friday it has authorized the one-shot coronavirus vaccine made by Johnson & Johnson's subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

"This is a further boost to the UK's hugely successful vaccination programme, which has already saved over 13,000 lives, and means that we now have four safe and effective vaccines approved to help protect people from this awful virus," British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said in a statement.

Johnson & Johnson's jab, as well as the one similarily-produced by AstraZeneca plc, recently came under scrutiny after it was discovered they could sometimes, albeit exceptionally rarely, cause blood clots in patients.
