British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds got married in a private setting on Saturday, marking the first time since 1822 that the United Kingdom's head of the government got wedded while holding office.

Johnson, 56, and Symonds, 33 had a Catholic ceremony at the Westminster Cathedral, where their now one-year-old son Wilfred got baptized last year. The couple got engaged in late 2019 on the Caribbean island of Mustique.

Following UK's COVID-19 restrictions the event could only allow up to 30 guests, who were invited last minute. Six days prior the couple sent out save-the-date cards for their marriage celebration scheduled for July 30, 2022.
