J&J to ask for booster shot authorization this week - report

Johnson and Johnson (J&J) is planning to ask the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize the use of the so-called booster shot of its vaccine against COVID-19 early this week, the New York Times (NYT) reported on Monday.

The FDA will allegedly meet on October 15 to discuss the possibility of giving this booster shot the emergency use authorization (EUA). The agency is supposedly reluctant to do so, given the recent claims the aforementioned vaccine does not provide enough protection against severe health deteriorations COVID-19 can lead to.

The FDA has so far approved the use of Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE's booster dose.
