UEFA said on Monday the draw for the Champions League round of 16 will be repeated later in the day after "technical problems" caused controversy during the original draw ceremony.

"Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16," UEFA said. "As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET," it added.

Earlier, Manchester United were first mistakenly drawn against Villarreal whom they had already faced in the group stage and were omitted from the pot with Atletico Madrid's possible opponents despite being able to face them. Finally, United were drawn against Paris Saint-Germain.
