China's GDP grows 1.6% in Q4, 4% over the year

The gross domestic product (GDP) of China rose by 4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2021, according to a preliminary report released by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday.

The data showed goods and services produced by Beijing surprised investors' expectations with the value-added of the primary industry landing at 8.3 billion yuan, increasing 7.1% on an annual basis, while the secondary industry rose by 8.2% to reach 45.0 billion yuan, as the tertiary industry went up by 8.2% to 60.9 billion yuan.

Compared to the figure seen in the third quarter of the year, the GDP improved by 1.4 percentage points, while the entire year GDP saw a 0.5% increase to stand at 114.3 billion yuan.
