United Airlines revenue at $8.2B in Q4

United Airlines Holdings Inc. said on Wednesday that its total operating revenue in the fourth quarter of 2021 amounted to $8.2 billion, rising 141% year on year and topping market estimates. Revenue was still 24% down from pre-pandemic levels in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The airline's net loss stood at $646 million, or $1.99 per diluted share, improving from a loss of $1.9 billion recorded in the same trimester in 2020. For full fiscal 2021, United's revenue was $24.6 billion and net loss stood at $2 billion, or $6.10 per share.

"The United team has been fighting through unprecedented obstacles to, once again, overcome the new and daunting challenges that COVID-19 is bringing to aviation," CEO Scott Kirby stated. "While Omicron is impacting near-term demand, we remain optimistic about the spring and excited about the summer and beyond," he added.

United Airlines shares fell 1.9% in after-hours trading despite better-than-expected results.
