Mitsubishi, Eneos to jointly produce sustainable fuel - report

Monday, 18. April 2022 08:07

Mitsubishi Corporation and Eneos Holdings will begin the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from aircraft, Nikkei reported on Monday.

SAF is oil obtained from biomass mixed with jet fuel derived from crude oil and aims to reduce the ejection of carbon dioxide by 70% to 90% in comparison to fossil fuel. The two companies plan to set up the domestic supply chain in 2027, which will procure raw materials, produce, and distribute the fuel.

According to the report, with the introduction of fuel regulations, about 13 billion liters of green aviation fuel will be required in Japan, the US, and Europe by 2030. Many American and French aviation companies agreed on using SAF last year.
