US backs Canada's move to return turbine to Germany

Monday, 11. July 2022 16:03

The United States Department of State announced on Monday that it would support Canada's decision to send back to Germany the repaired turbine for use in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline.

"In the short term, the turbine will allow Germany and other European countries to replenish their gas reserves, increasing their energy security and resiliency and countering Russia's efforts to weaponize energy," reads the statement published today by the Department of State. However, the communique also stressed that the allies are working on ways to diminish the dependency on Russian energy.

The move comes amid increasing worries about gas supply after Nord Stream AG halted gas deliveries from Russia to Europe on Monday at 7:00 am local time for maintenance work.
