American Airlines' Q2 revenue at $13.42B, up by 79.45%

American Airlines Inc. announced on Thursday that its total operating revenue in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2022 observed an annual rise of 79.45% to come in at $13.42 billion. The company's operating income surged by 130.61% on a yearly basis to reach $1.02 billion, while its net income went up by skyrocketed by a staggering 2405.26% to land at $476 million. Its diluted earnings per share soared by a similar percentage, climbing to $0.68 per share.

"We are very pleased to report a quarterly profit, excluding net special items, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, driven by the strong demand environment and the hard work of our team. The American Airlines team has stepped up to meet the surge in demand for air travel while running a reliable operation in very challenging conditions," American Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Isom remarked.

Following the release of the report, the company's shares fell by 2.37% in premarket trading as, despite the significant gains, certain figures either only matched or missed expectations.
