Europe rises at close, DAX tops almost 120 pts

Major stock market indexes in Europe closed higher on Monday following the release of a new batch of economic data and updates on the situation regarding the Ukraine crisis.

Earlier, Sentix said the Investor Confidence Index for the euro area dropped further in August, reaching a negative 25.2, compared to a negative 26.4 in July. Russia accused Ukraine of nuclear terrorism, while the Ukrainian army announced it received the first three Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft systems from Germany.

The DAX gained 119 points or 0.88% at the close, with EO.N up by 2.89%. The French benchmark CAC 40 added 0.80%, while Stellantis NV improved by 3.13%. The FTSE 100 rose 0.60%, as Hargreaves Lansdown climbed 7.18%.

The euro was up by 0.35% against the dollar at 5:27 pm CET, selling for $1.0220. A minute later, the pound rose by 0.38% to go for $1.2118.
