United States stock exchanges surrendered earlier gains on Monday after Nvidia revealed a preliminary second-quarter earnings report that seemingly failed to meet expectations, hurting other chipmakers' stocks in the process.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index declined 0.07%, the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.19% and the S&P 500 was down 0.22% at 12:37 pm ET.

The euro was 0.18% up to $1.0199 at 12:35 pm ET.
