Johnson and Johnson (J&J) announced in a statement that it will be discontinuing its talc-based baby powder on a global level, starting in 2023, as the company aims to "deliver sustainable innovation, and meet the needs of our consumers, customers and evolving global trends." "As part of a worldwide portfolio assessment, we have made the commercial decision to transition to an all cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio," the statement read. Previously, the company was ordered to pay $2.12 billion to plaintiffs who sought damages for suffering cancer after using the company's products. In today's statement, J&J firmly stood "behind the decades of independent scientific analysis by medical experts around the world that confirms talc-based JOHNSON’S Baby Powder is safe, does not contain asbestos, and does not cause cancer." |
