Harris seeks to ease S. Korea's worries on EV subsidies - report

Tuesday, 27. September 2022 07:41

United States Vice President Kamala Harris is seeking to ease tensions and concerns raised by South Korea over electric vehicle (EV) subsidy rules, Yonhap reported Tuesday.

Said ruling on EVs is part of the recently approved Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 by United States President Joe Biden, which according to South Korean officials, contains "discriminative measures against electric vehicles from South Korea," and described it as "unfair." Harris, who is visiting Asia, met with South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on Tuesday.

In line with the report, more recently, Seoul's Ambassador to the US said that the US government agreed to initiate official conversations with South Korea on reducing the adverse effects of the IRA on South Korean electric vehicles.
