Apple Inc. has been discussing the possibility of raising production in India with its suppliers, Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources briefed on the talks.

California-based tech giant's key supplier Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., or Foxconn, is getting ready to produce Beats headphones in India, with AirPods hopefully to follow, according to the insiders. Although Apple initially planned for products manufactured in India only to be sold in the country's market, it now intends to up local output to a level where India-made devices could serve European and other markets.

The American company is reportedly looking to move some production away from China to diminish the chances of supply disruption that come with Beijing's strict coronavirus policies.
