Orange CEO: Power cuts might affect emergency calls

Orange Group Chief Executive Christel Heydemann warned on Wednesday that potential power cuts across France this winter could prompt emergency calls to temporarily become unavailable in the affected region.

"If mobile network services are turned off for two hours in a geographical area, there won't be access to the emergency number services for a while... It is illusory to imagine that we'll be able to maintain service to all French people in the event of power cuts," Heydemann said addressing the French parliament.

Her statement contrast the government's stance that emergency numbers would continue operating in case of power cuts due to the so-called "resource antennas."
