Biden signs rail bill preventing strike

United States President Joe Biden on Friday signed legislation allowing for a rail labor agreement to come into force, thwarting a strike that could have paralyzed the country ahead of the holiday season.

The bill incorporated a salary increase of 24%, but stopped short of allowing for paid sick leave, as the US Senate yesterday rejected the scheme proposed by the House of Representatives.

Regardless of the outcome, the president on Thursday vowed to continue to "fight for paid leave for not only rail workers but for all American workers."
