Airlines across the United States have canceled over 10,000 flights since Wednesday over winter storms that engulfed the country ahead of the Christmas holidays, CNBC reported, citing flight tracker FlightAware.

The airlines have jointly delayed nearly 47,554 flights on Thursday, 30,875 on Saturday and 27,997 on Sunday, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration.

More cancellations are expected in the coming days, which may prompt airlines to reimburse tickets for those who cancel their flights due to the delays.
