EU could reduce NI border checks to reach trade deal

European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic said that Brussels could ease Northern Ireland border checks in order to reach a post-Brexit trade agreement with London.

"If the data are downloaded into the system, when the goods are put on the ferry from Britain... I believe that we can remotely process them while sailing to Northern Ireland," Sefcovic told the Financial Times in an interview published on Monday.

The hopes of a trade deal were somewhat renewed after Liz Truss became the new British prime minister last week.
