Volkswagen's global deliveries for the first quarter of 2021 rose sharply by 21% year-on-year with 2,431,900 total units sold, the company announced on Friday.

Volkswagen's units sold particularly well in China, with 999,600 vehicles delivered, 61% more than during the same period the previous year. The delivery rate suffered a 4.6% decline in the Western European car market, while the sales grew significantly in North and South America and the Asia-Pacific region, the German car manufacturer stated.

On March 17, Volkswagen Group officially became the most valuable public company in Germany when it surpassed the multinational software corporation SAP SE.
