DHS setting up domestic terror branch

Wednesday, 12. May 2021 01:53

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it is establishing a domestic terrorism unit at its intelligence arm.

The new branch is designed to assure the department gets the intelligence necessary to "combat threats posed by domestic terrorism and targeted violence," the agency said.

The news comes after President Joe Biden in January directed law enforcement and intelligence officials to assess the threat of violent domestic extremism after rioters stormed the Capitol building while Congress was in session.
