Business news for the stock market

Heidelberg (pta013/19.07.2021/11:35) - Altech Advanced Materials AG (AAM / the company) (FRA: AMA1), is pleased to announce that Altech Industries Germany GmbH (AIG), a subsidiary of Altech Chemicals Limited (75%) and Altech Advanced Materials AG (25%) for the implementation of the European development strategy, has taken over an office and a research and development (R&D) workshop at the DOCK3 Industrial Development Centre in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park, municipality of Spreetal, Saxony.

The official opening with handing over of the keys took place by Mr. Roland Peine, Managing Director of ASG Spremberg GmbH, in the presence of the District Administrator Mr. Michael Harig, the Mayor of Spreetal, Mr. Manfred Peine, and the Mayoress of Spreetal, Ms. Christine Herntier, from the states of Saxony and Brandenburg as well as many high-ranking representatives of the state government and industry as well as leading scientists of the Fraunhofer Institute IKTS, Dresden.

The aim is to establish the development and production of battery materials with a special focus on nano-coated anode materials in the rented factory halls and adjacent office space of the DOCK3 start-up center. The basis of the planned development is the successful licensing of the entire know-how and technology of Altech Australia Ltd as well as the exclusive rights to exploit this know-how in the European Union including the marketing rights.

Using a patent-pending novel coating technology, a nanolayer of high purity alumina (HPA) is applied to graphite and/or silicon particles used in the anode of an electromobility lithium-ion battery. Alumina-coated anode particles have the potential to significantly improve the performance, lifetime, energy density, fast-charge capability and safety of high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Currently, Altech expects to increase battery performance by 8 to 10 percent and life cycle by up to 30 percent.

"Our novel technology has the potential to become a game changer in battery technology. If we manage to increase the performance of the batteries so massively, we will thus increase consumer acceptance of e-mobility and make an important contribution to a more climate-friendly future", says Uwe Ahrens, managing director of AIG.

AIG's office and planned development/production workshops in DOCK 3 will be used to further refine the effectiveness of alumina coating technology for battery materials and to produce test material that will be made available to major European battery manufacturers for verification testing.

"Schwarze Pumpe is an ideal location for Altech and other future material coating facilities. The location is ideal for us due to the existing infrastructure and its proximity to Berlin and Dresden. Saxony and Brandenburg in particular are the federal states with core competencies in the field of fast-growing electromobility. Many of the planned production sites of leading car manufacturers and battery producers are concentrated here. In addition, the region is a leading training location for engineers and has excellent research facilities such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, which is one of the world's leading institutes in the field of battery materials," explained Uwe Ahrens in his opening speech.

The development/production workshops now occupied are located directly adjacent to a ~ 14-hectare site in Schwarze Pumpe for which AIG has an option to purchase. The Altech Group's plan is to use this site for the construction of the HPA main plant and battery materials production facilities.

About Altech Advanced Materials AG

Altech Advanced Materials AG (ISIN: DE000A2LQUJ6) ("AAM") from Heidelberg is a Frankfurt listed investment company. The company's objective is to participate in the market for lithium-ion batteries and thus the rapidly growing electromobility sector, as well as in the expected market development for the other applications of high-purity alumina. For this purpose, Altech Advanced Material AG has taken a 25%-stake in Altech Industries Germany, Dresden, ("AIG"), where a factory for the production of anode battery coating material is planned to be built together with the partner Altech Chemicals Limited, Australia ("ATC"). Currently, the pre-feasibility study is under development. AIG holds exclusive rights to the use of coating technology for anode materials and the rights to the technology for the production of high purity alumina ("HPA") within the European Union of Altech Australia Pty Ltd, Australia. Furthermore, AAM holds an option to acquire an interest of up to 49% in Altech Australia Pty Ltd, Australia, ("Altech") for up to USD100 million. Currently, Altech is a wholly owned subsidiary of ATC. Altech is the owner of the IP rights to the HPA technology as well as the 100% parent company of Altech Chemicals Sn Bd, Malaysia, through which a 4,500 tpy HPA plant is to be built in Johor, Malaysia and Altech Meckering Pty Ltd, Australia, the company that holds the rights to the kaolin mine used to procure the raw material for the production of the HPA.
