Asian stocks mixed in afternoon trading

Markets in the Asia-Pacific were mixed in afternoon trading on Wednesday as investors digested Bank of Japan's (BoJ) meeting minutes and the country's trade balance report and kept an eye on news about the fourth COVID-19 wave, as well as corporate earnings.

The Nikkei 225 rose 0.44% at 7:19 am CET. The dollar was flat against the yen, going for 109.8765 at the same time.

In China, the Shanghai Composite climbed 0.65% at 7:19 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite surged 1.32% at 7:05 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 added 0.91% at 7:20 am CET.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.61% at 7:21 am CET and South Korea's Kospi lost 0.39% at the same time.
