US opens lower after jobs report

Stock indexes in the United States opened in the red territory on Wednesday after the latest employment report revealed that the US private sector added more-than-expected 568,000 jobs in September, but failed to lift market sentiment. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and CEOs of several American corporations will discuss the federal debt ceiling at the White House later in the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index lost 0.73%, or 254 points, at the open. Dow Inc. was the worst performer, decreasing 1.34% at 9:31 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 contracted by 0.98% and the S&P 500 declined by 0.86% in the first minute of trading, as CDW Corp. lead the losses at both indexes, falling 4.87% at 9:33 am ET.

The euro decreased by 0.47% against the dollar to trade at 1.15436 at 9:29 am ET.
