Claims Russia stole AZ's virus vaccine formula false - Kremlin

Monday, 11. October 2021 12:22

The Kremlin dismissed on Monday the claims that Russia stole the formula of AstraZeneca PLC and Oxford University's vaccine against COVID-19 to create its own treatment as "deeply unscientific."

Kremlin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov went on to slam British magazine The Sun, which originally published the claims, as a "very well-known, deeply unscientific newspaper" that should be treated as such. He also explained that AstraZeneca used a chimpanzee adenovirus as a delivery method while the Gamaleya Institute used a human one to create Sputnik V.

Peskov's comments come in response to an article published by The Sun, which claimed a Russian spy stole AstraZeneca and Oxford's data and gave it to Russian authorities, which later used it to develop Sputnik V.
