US closes mixed on industry & housing data

Major stock indexes in the United States finished trading mixed on Monday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average just below the flatline, while the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 recorded gains.

Industrial production data fell below market expectations for September while builder confidence for newly-built single-family homes increased in October. Amazon announced that it will hire 150,000 new employees for the holiday season, while the US Transportation Secretary stated that supply chain concerns would continue into next year.

The Dow closed 0.10% in the red with The Walt Disney Co shedding 3.00%. The Nasdaq 100 surged 1.02% at the same time led by CDW Corp jumping 4.79%, while the S&P 500 climbed 0.34% with Gap Inc rising 4.97%. The euro gained 0.11% against the dollar, changing hands for $1.16110 at 3:58 pm ET.
