S. Korea to give Iran 1M doses of AstraZeneca

South Korea's foreign ministry announced on Monday that it will donate one million doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine to Iran.

The donation follows a period of strained relations due to the freezing of Iranian assets in the Republic of Korea under United States sanctions. Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong assured his Iranian counterpart in phone calls last month that he would make efforts to resolve the funds issue and help the Middle Eastern nation with its vaccination effort.

The ministry's statement refers to the shipment as a symbol of six decades of friendly ties between the two nations.
