Europe closes mostly lower after tumultuous session

Major stock markets closed mostly lower on Tuesday, following the DAX and the CAC 40 hitting record highs earlier in the day. Brexit is still dominating the headlines, with the United Kingdom saying that their stance on issues remains, while Ireland is preparing for a potential trade war. Meanwhile, European Central Bank officials noted that the pandemic could threaten asset quality and projected inflation to go below 2% by 2023.

The DAX ended the session flat, with Fresenius dropping 3.99%. The CAC 40 finished 0.09% lower, as ArcelorMittal declined 3.68%. The FTSE 100 was down by 0.36% at the closing bell, Dcc plc falling 3.88%.

The euro lost 0.09% to the dollar trading for $1.15785 at 5:33 pm CET, while the pound dropped 0.20% against the American currency to change hands for $1.35376 at the same time.
