DAX, CAC 40 close at record highs amid inflation talk

Shares on the major stock market indices in Europe ended the session mostly in the green on Monday with inflation still dominating the headlines. The German DAX and the French CAC 40 reached new record highs.

European Central Bank (ECB) Vice President Luis de Guindos forecasted that consumer prices may remain high "longer than expected," while Bank of England (BoE) Governor Andrew Bailey expressed a similar sentiment, noting he feels "uneasy" about the inflation situation.

The DAX gained 0.34% at the close, with Zalando surging 4.29%. At the same time, the CAC 40 advanced by 0.53% as BNP Paribas jumped 3.29%. At the end of the session, the FTSE 100 was flat.

The euro dropped 0.2% versus the dollar at 5:32 pm CET, selling for 1.14232, while the pound increased by 0.13% versus the greenback at the same time, to go for 1.34392.
