Google LLC is currently in the process of considering moving certain parts of its production out of China as a result of lockdowns which are still being imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reported The Information on Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the sources, the lockdowns, which caused major disturbances in manufacturing and supply chains, led Google to start seeking bids from Indian producers who would assemble between half a million and one million of the company’s Pixel smartphones.

The figure would be comparable to 10% to 20% of the projected yearly output for the device, one of the sources shared. In the recent past, the manufacturing of these smartphones was solely conducted in China.
