YouTube said on Tuesday it would introduce ads on its Shorts videos and provide creators with 45% of the revenue earned from the ads, a slightly lower percentage compared to the standard 55% for the rest of the videos on the platform.

"We want YouTube to be the place that gives the greatest support within the changing digital landscape," YouTube Chief Product Officer Neal Mohan said, as the company continued to face pressures from the uprising of its rival TikTok.

YouTube also announced that a creator music program will launch in the fall, under which creators will split the revenue with songwriters.
