Microsoft faces antitrust complaint by CISPE in EU

Cloud Infrastructure Service Providers in Europe (CISPE) said on Wednesday the organization filed an antitrust complaint with the European Commission against Microsoft's cloud computing practices.

CISPE, whose members include Amazon, alleged that Microsoft is "irreparably damaging the European cloud ecosystem and depriving European customers of choice in their cloud deployments." The group noted that the tech giant's recent announcements aimed at addressing antitrust concerns "have not provided the detail, clarity or assurance that it truly intends to bring a swift end to its anti-competitive licensing practices" and claimed Microsoft's new contractual terms added "new unfair practices to the list."

A day earlier, the EU launched an in-depth investigation into Microsoft's proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard, citing concerns the deal could "significantly reduce competition" in console and PC video games distribution.
