British pharma giant AstraZeneca announced on Friday it has signed an agreement with Chinese company Genertec Meheco on the distribution of its COVID-19 treatment Evusheld across the country.

Under the cooperation deal, Genertec Meheco will manage the import and distribution of the antibody drug in mainland China once its use receives a green light from the authorities in Beijing.

While the drug is still considered experimental, it is used to prevent severe COVID-19 in immunocompromised adolescents and adults as well as in populations who aren't recommended to receive a coronavirus vaccine.
