Europe closes mostly lower, US election still uncalled

European markets closed mostly in the red on Friday as the outcome of the presidential election in the United States remains unknown.

At the moment, Democrat Joe Biden maintains a steady lead over President Donald Trump, however, six states remain uncalled by most major networks. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases across Europe continued to climb, impacting the economic outlook for the continent still reeling from the first COVID-19 wave.

The DAX lost 0.70% as Daimler led the losses. The CAC 40 fell 0.46% with Renault dropping over 3%. In London, the FTSE 100 closed flat. The euro jumped 0.51% against the dollar at 5:45 pm CET, buying 1.18866. The pound was up 0.21% versus the greenback, to go for 1.31730 at the time.
