Car and electronics firms in France to address chip shortages

The French Finance Ministry stated on Thursday that companies doing business in the automobile and electronics industry would join forces in order to address coronavirus-related supply chain disruptions in the auto industry.

The chips used in the production of vehicles, especially in engine management and driver-assistance systems, mostly come from Asian countries. However, their supply has been broadly impacted by the ongoing crisis. The announcement comes after both Renault and Stellantis revealed last week that they have temporarily halted production at some factories due to the shortage of semiconductors.

Meanwhile, reports from last month suggested Daimler and Nissan were also in the process of slowing down vehicle output over similar issues related to parts shortages.
