Europe opens higher ahead of data, earnings

Major stock indexes in Europe started Wednesday's trading session higher on positive COVID-19 vaccine news. European Commissioner Thierry Breton said the bloc is ramping up its manufacturing and is expecting to produce between two and three million jabs by end of 2021. Meanwhile, the British government revealed it extend its furlough scheme until October.

The FTSE 100 gained 0.79% a minute after the opening bell; mining company Polymetal International was the strongest performer. The DAX was up 0.66% at the same time as Continental surged over 4%. The CAC 40 increased 0.54% with Renault rising 3.34%.

The euro traded flat against the greenback at 8:59 am CET, selling for 1.20947. The pound rose 0.12% concurrently to change hands for 1.39824 dollars.
