Dollar sinks as Biden maintains lead in election

The US dollar weakened compared to major currencies on Thursday as uncertainty surrounding the presidential election dragged on.

With at least six battleground states still counting votes, Democratic nominee Joe Biden was in the lead. The Trump campaign vowed to challenge the results in a number of states, claiming possible miscounts and other issues.

The euro jumped 0.71% against the dollar at 4:56 am ET, buying 1.17991. The greenback was down 0.27% compared to the Japanese yen at 4:58 am ET, going for 104.242. Meanwhile, the British pound climbed 0.45% versus the US currency at 1.30453.
