Cisco Systems and Acacia Communications have announced on Thursday their merger agreement, under which Cisco acquires Acacia for $115 per share in cash, or approximately $4.5 billion "on a fully diluted basis, net of cash and marketable securities".

The deal has arrived following Acacia's termination of the previous $2.6 billion agreement with Cisco on 8 January 2021.

The merging process is planned to be complete by the end of March 2021. It is reported that the purchase of Acacia is aligned with Cisco’s "Internet for the Future strategy", which will now involve world class optical solutions.

Upon merger completion, Acacia employees, along with CEO Raj Shanmugaraj, will join Cisco’s Optics business.
