Sputnik V led to fewer deaths than other vaccines - officials

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the Gamaleya Research Institute claimed on Friday the latter's vaccine against COVID-19, Sputnik V, led to the fewest number of deaths in comparisons to the ones made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE, Moderna Inc., AstraZeneca PLC, Johnson and Johnson (J&J).

The authorities said they based their study on the information made available by 13 international health regulators, which showed the highest figure for fatalities after vaccination per one million administered doses came after the use of Pfizer's jab. Still, they insisted that "death rates are below average in population due to selection criteria for vaccinations" as "regulators didn't find a connection between vaccinations and deaths."

Earlier this month, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor) stated there had not been any cases of blood clots reported following the use of Sputnik V, unlike with many other vaccines.
