Europe closes lower after data, earnings

Major European stock markets closed with losses on Friday after another batch of corporate earnings and major economic data reports. Eurozone data confirmed GDP growth at 2% in the second quarter of 2021, with the unemployment rate going down to 7.7% in June and inflation rising to 2.2% in July.

Meanwhile, companies such as Unicredit, Renault S.A, BNP Paribas S.A. and NatWest Group plc reported their earnings results for the second quarter of this year.

The DAX lost 0.61% at the closing bell, with Fresenius Medical Care plunging 4.30%. The FTSE 100 fell 0.65%, as IAG Group plummeted 7.40%. The CAC 40 declined by 0.32%. URW SE led the losses by sinking 4.22%. The euro decreased by 0.25% against the dollar to sell for 1.18571, while the pound tumbled 0.43% to $1.38998 at 5:34 pm CET.
