US opens lower amid spending bill deadlock

Major United States stock markets opened lower on Monday as uncertainties continue concerning the two large infrastructure packages in the administration's spending plan. President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation on the issue later in the day. In company news, GitLab and IHS Holding announced IPO plans, while Qualcomm will buy Veoneer for $4.5 billion.

The Dow Jones fell by 0.15% at 9:30 am ET, led by Microsoft Corp., which dropped 1.67%. The S&P 500 lost 0.26% as Moderna plummeted 7.52%. The Nasdaq 100 was down by 0.60%, also weighed down by Moderna's losses.

The euro traded 0.33% higher compared to the dollar at 9:34 am ET and went for 1.16310.
