6.7-magnitude earthquake hits Japan's Izu Islands

A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake has struck the area near Japan's Izu Islands, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported on Monday.

The epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 46 kilometers, 520 kilometers southeast of Japan's city of Kisarazu and 483 kilometers southeast of the town of Tateyama.

Witnesses claimed a barely noticeable ground shaking lasted for around 20 seconds following the tremor, while authorities haven't issued a tsunami warning.
