US opens mixed on jobs data, Omicron worries

Major stock markets in the United States opened mixed on Thursday after the newest reports showed a decline in initial jobless claims and job cuts. Earlier, the country registered the first case of the new strain of COVID-19, Omicron. Later in the day, President Joe Biden will hold a press conference on the steps his administration will take to curb the further spread of the virus and alleviate its effects on the country's economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.38% or 130 points higher as The Boeing Company rose by 3.43%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.41%, with Apple Inc. declining by 3.01%. The S&P 500 stood flat.

The euro went up by 0.25% against the dollar to sell for $1.13398 at 9:29 am ET.
