Sterling jumps after BoE raises rate

The British pound increased on Thursday compared to several other major global currencies after the Bank of England hiked its interest rate for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic hit the national economy.

Sterling rose 0.74% in comparison to the dollar, selling for 1.33604 at 11:24 am CET. The euro decreased by 0.59% against the pound, going for 0.84618 a minute later. The British currency jumped 0.87% compared to the Japanese yen, buying 152.531 at 11:26 am CET. The pound advanced 0.61% against the Swiss franc, changing hands for 1.2333 at 11:31 am CET.
