Scott Morrison (pictured), the treasurer of Australia, has won the Liberal Party's ballot 45-40 for the new party leadership on Friday, opening the door for himself to become the country's next prime minister. Morrison's victory comes after the current Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull survived the party's leadership vote, just several days ago. In the latest vote, Turnbull decided not to seek reelection, and Morrison was competing with former home affairs minister Peter Dutton and foreign minister Julie Bishop. In a tweet, Turnbull announced that a Liberal Party meeting will be called, as soon as the 43 signatures he received are verified. If the votes go as expected, Morrison would become Australia's sixth Prime Minister in a decade. |
