The British pound increased compared to the United States dollar on Thursday after the Bank of England voted to leave its interest rates unchanged at 0.1%.

Apart from the decision to maintain the same monetary policy, the BoE hinted that "some developments" that took place since its last Monetary Policy Committee meeting backed the need for a "modest tightening of monetary policy over the forecast period" in the medium term.

The pound jumped 0.62% versus the greenback at 1:30 pm CET, selling for 1.37040.
