Europe closes lower for cautious start of week

Major stock markets in Europe closed lower on Monday, as investors were cautious ahead of the releases of quarterly earnings reports this week. Leading the headlines, the European Union touted its achievements in fighting the pandemic and it seems like more time is needed for the negotiations regarding the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The DAX ended the session 0.67% in the red, with Porsche falling 3.61%. The FTSE 100 was down by 0.40% at the closing bell, as International Consolidated Airlines lost 3.73%. The CAC 40 finished 0.75% lower, with URW dropping 4.18%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar trading for $1.16044 at 5:35 pm CET, while the pound lost 0.24% against the American currency changing hands for $1.37184 at the same time.
