US opens higher, Dow Jones rises by 300 points

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Monday ahead of President Joe Biden's speech on the effect of its Build Back Better Act on lowering the prices of prescription drugs. Earlier, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky stated the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering easing the approval of any potential vaccine against the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Meanwhile, Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (ICE) announced changes to the leadership of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.87% or 301 points higher at the opening as Amgen Inc. rose by 4.31%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.19%, with Booking Holdings Inc. expanding by 4.34%. The S&P 500 went up by 0.63% as Delta Air Lines Inc. advanced by 2.97%.

The euro lost 0.13% to the dollar at 9:25 am ET to sell for $1.12950.
